First Unitarian Universalist Church Campus Masterplan and Modernization
Platt/Whitelaw Architects is working with the First Unitarian Universalist congregation in San Diego to design and implement future changes to their campus.
The objective of the project is to provide an analysis of the future requirements of the church, develop a phased master plan for improvements to the facilities to accommodate these requirements, and provide design and supporting services for the realization of the plan.
The project is designed in such a way that it reflects the environmental consciousness of the congregation and the denomination.
Working with the Campus Renovation Team appointed by the congregation and with Southern Cross Properties (the consulting Facilities Manager) the Architect followed the following procedure.
Meet with the campus renovation committee and various special focus groups representing the kitchen, music office administration, art gallery, religious education, courtyard/environmental stewardship, administration, universal design/disabled access, ministerial team council, and minister, to identify existing deficiencies and future growth requirements
Analyze the existing site conditions and building accommodations
Review regulatory requirements pertaining to the site
Establish requirements to accommodate existing deficiencies and future growth
Develop conceptual design options and present them to the Campus Renovation Team
Refine the conceptual design option selected by the Committee and present it to the congregation
